Which is the Best Diet for 2023

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on rankings and consumer advice, released its annual Best Diets rankings today. The 2023 rankings assess 24 diets using a new methodology established with the assistance of more than 30 nutritionists, doctors, and epidemiologists to help everyone discover a diet that meets their goals.

Which is the Best Diet

For the sixth year in a row, the Mediterranean Diet is named the Best Diet Overall, with an emphasis on eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and seafood, as well as a focus on diet quality rather than a specific nutrient or food group. The Mediterranean Diet is also tied for first place in Best Diets for Bone and Joint Health, Best Family-Friendly Diets, Best Diets for Healthy Eating, and Best Plant-Based Diets. The DASH Diet is noted for its ability to prevent or control diabetes and enhance heart health, and the Flexitarian Diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based protein for the entire family, tie for second place in the Best Diet Overall category.

New Categories to Best Diet Rankings

The Best Diets rankings for 2023 include two new diet categories: Best Diets for Bone and Joint Health and Best Diets for Families. The Mediterranean Diet and DASH Diet tied for first place in the Best Diets for Bone and Joint Health category, and the Mediterranean Diet, Flexitarian Diet, and TLC Diet tied for first place in the Best Family-Friendly Diets category.

“If you want to eat healthier, choosing a diet that is right for you can be difficult,” said Gretel Schueller, managing editor of health at U.S. News. “The U.S. News rankings examine diets that are well-researched and provide sustainable weight loss tips. We added two new categories to this year’s rankings to provide even more options to support a healthy lifestyle.”
