Blue Cheese Products Recalled Over Listeria Contamination
Austin-based food store Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling cheese products due to possible listeria contamination.
The recalled cheese products are “Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese”, “Maytag Blue” or Maytag Iowa Blue Cheese” with PLU numbers beginning with 293308 and sell-by dates of Jan. 20 and March 21, 2016.
The testing in Iowa has revealed that two lots of products from Maytag Diary farms tested positive for listeria.
Listeria contamination is contagious as it can lead to sickness, nausea and diarrhea. Children and pregnant women are more susceptible to listeria infection.
Whole foods is asking people to either discard the cheese packets or return it at any of their outlets.
