Avian Influenza Outbreak Alert Issued due to Death of 23,000 Chickens in Karnataka

The institute confirmed that the samples had tested positive for H5N1, a highly pathogenic flu virus. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, all poultry birds within a radius of 1km of the affected farm will be culled and strictly monitored.
“Immediately after receiving the report, we have asked the district administration to cull the entire 1.5 lakh birds in the affected poultry farm to ensure the outbreak doesn’t spread,” said A Manju, Karnataka, husbandry minister.
Officials have also instructed the villagers to monitor the movement of wild birds that might carry the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus.
